What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence (DV) is a "pattern of behaviors used by a partner to maintain power and control over the other partner an intimate relationship."

Did you know?

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men experience some form of physical violence by a partner in their lifetime.

  • On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the U.S., amounting to over 10 million victims annually.

  • 1 in 4 women who experience physical and/or sexual violence are first victimized between the ages of 11 and 17.

  • 1 in 12 teens face physical, emotional, sexual, or verbal abuse from a dating partner.

Despite these staggering statistics, you are not alone, and you are not stuck. Whether you’ve just left an abusive situation or still finding the courage to make the change, know that healing is possible. Survivors of domestic violence have the capacity to reclaim their lives, work through the pain, and BEGIN AGAIN!
